DG834 quickstart instructions
These instructions apply for both the wired only DG834 and the wireless DG834G models, although here we will only supply instructions for configuring the box through the wired ports and for a wired NATed (connection sharing) setup.
- (optional:) find a small pin and push it into the small round hole located on the back of the box between the network ports and the socket where you plug in the telephone lead for about ten seconds. After ten seconds the test light on the front of the box should start to flash at which point the router has been reset to factory defaults and you may remove the pin
- power on the box and plug in all the wiring between your computer and the Netgear box
- turn on your computer and once fired up open your web browser, for example Internet Explorer
- go to http://192.168.0.1/ and you should be presented with a window asking for a username/password:
- username: admin
- password: password
- you should now be presented with a page with lots of links to go to, hold off the urge to explore and go to 'ADSL Settings'
- there will be three boxes which should have the following settings:
- Multiplexing Method: VC-Based
- VPI: 0
- VCI: 38
- click on apply
- now go to the 'Basic Settings' page and fill the page with:
- Does Your Internet Connection Require a Login: yes
- Encapsulation: PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
- Login: abcdef123@dsl2.net
- Password: ********
- Service Name: MetroNet
- Idle Timeout: 0
- Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP
- DNS Servers: Get Automatically from ISP
- NAT (Network Address Translation): Enabled
- click on 'Apply' and once finished click on 'Test'
- your Internet connection should now be up and running.
To give other computers access to the Internet you simply plug them into the Netgear box and they will be configured automagically. From now onwards the box will remember the settings and you can put it in a corner and forget about it.
